It’s a whole club thing
As I write this the Chichester Camera Club Annual Exhibition looms large on the horizon. Just a week away (Thursday28th July) is the Pre-Exhibition meeting at TVC, eight days later (Friday 5th August) is the Exhibition Preview Meeting in the Assembly Room in Chichester. The following day the Exhibition opens to the public.
For the first time since the Annual Exhibition of 2019, the Chichester Camera Club has the opportunity to show the work of the whole membership to the general public. It has to be a success and be up to the standard our followers expect of us. This is where you come in, contrary to what you may think, it is not just for the few, it is a whole club thing. Every single one of us.
If you are new to the club or perhaps didn’t submit any images, you may well be thinking, what’s it got to do with me? What is the point of me going to the Thursday meeting? Well next Thursday is the evening when any loose ends are tied up. There are always a few spaces not filled in the stewarding rota and the same with the kitchen duties. Arrangements with Sarah over the refreshments for the Preview and finalizing the “heavy mob” to move the screens and everything else we need from
Tangmere on the following Thursday and loading the van.
If you did enter images and you won a Certificate of Merit, those will be handed out and for £1 you will be able to purchase the Exhibition Catalogue and see if you won a trophy. There will also be the trifold programme for the 2022/23 season giving you details of what will be on offer each Thursday evening. There is also a complete list of who does what within the club. So, Thursday 28th is a busy evening and will give you an excellent chance to offer your services over the course of the
Exhibition. Please attend if you possible can.
On Friday 5th August, the Exhibition is assembled in the Assembly Room and you are responsible for hanging your prints or finding someone to do it for you. In the evening is the Preview Meeting. It is
when our invited guests from other clubs in Sussex and the SCPF come to see what Chichester has to offer and to meet old friends. It is vital that Chichester is well represented. If through your skill you have won a trophy then please make every effort to attend. There is nothing
more embarrassing for the club than a significant number of trophy winners not attending. If your name is called and nobody steps forward the applause peters out, there is an uncomfortable silence
and if the same thing keeps happening those involved with the presentations wish the floor would open and swallow them up. We must avoid that at all costs.
On Saturday 6th, the Exhibition opens and there will be a steady stream of visitors. Some from the City itself where the Exhibition is part of the summer events. There are also many who take their
holidays in West Sussex and each year make a point of visiting Chichester and our Exhibition. I urge you to be part of it, it is a Whole Club event.
Inevitably, Saturday 13th is another whole club event when the Exhibition has to be dismantled, prints taken home by their author and the “heavy mob” takes everything back to our storage in Tangmere.
There is plenty for you to help with.
See you next week on Thursday 28th .
