Summer Evening Visit to Waverley Abbey House and Waverley Abbey Ruins
I can arrange a visit to the above if members wish. The date I am considering is Thursday June 1st but the date can be changed if the 1st not suitable.
Waverley Abbey House is a privately owned mansion house on the banks of the River Wey and opposite Waverley Abbey Ruins, in a beautiful setting, just outside Farnham. Waverley Abbey House is privately owned and is open for functions, and also on a couple of days a year for public viewing. Waverley Abbey Ruins are owned by English Heritage and are open in daylight hours.
I can arrange for the House to be opened for us on the evening of Thursday1st June for a guided tour followed by a finger buffet, with tea/coffee and soft drinks. The event will start at 6.30 pm and there will be ample opportunity for photography, both in the house and grounds. Those people who can make it for 6 pm will have the opportunity of taking photos in the grounds and may cross the bridge across the river to wander round the Ruins. There will be time to do this again, of course, after the tour/buffet in the House. If it’s a nice day the setting will look stunning in the evening light – let’s pray for good weather!
The cost for this will be £14 per head, and Waverley Abbey House are able to cater for approximately 30 people.
At this months Black & White Group Meeting Jan Davis gave a demonstration on black and white portraiture.
At the beginning members were given a demonstration on setting up lighting with available equipment, use of a remote flash and also a datacolour cube which helps with post processing. Camera settings were discussed and and several images taken. Post production was carried out via tethering and in the view of those present. Several pieces of software including Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One and Nik software were used showing the differences in their makeup.

The Black & White Group met last Wednesday at Tangmere. Dave Abbott kindly spent the evening demonstrating the Nik Black & White Silver EFEX pro software program. Silver EFEX is very powerful and can be found free of charge on the internet. Dave spent the entire evening going through each of the many features and showing each of their reactions via a landscape image, he has also produced a document and image covering all aspects of the program which is attached to this report.
Members congratulated Dave at the end of the evening for the time he took to prepare and present the talk, I also echo these thoughts in thanking Dave. At each of our monthly meetings we feature a particular item of black and white photography so why not come along to one of our meetings in the new year and see what black and white can do for you. You will be most welcome. Ray Acland
