Rivers, Trees, Journeys – Yan Wang Preston
Dr Yan Wang Preston, will discuss research and execution strategies for long-term photographic projects. She will use two of her own projects as case studies: for Mother River (2011-2014), she photographed the entire 6,211km Yangtze River in China at precise 100km intervals. For Forest (2010-2017), she followed the adaptation journeys of transplanted old trees in new Chinese cities. Both projects have won major awards, shown internationally and published extensively. Dr Preston will focus on a holistic research approach termed as Deep Mapping, in which contextual and historical research, technical experiments and a bodily intervention within the landscape all contribute to generate new artistic insights.Dr Preston – Biog
