Weekly update
Thursday’s Zoom talk by Derbyshire-based David Keep FRPS MPAGB FBPE EFIAP was an insight into his analytical approach to picking the best sports for impactful, competition winning photography. Having reviewed more than a dozen sports, his conclusion was that short-track speed skating gives the most action shots and interesting facial expression per session. Others he rated highly were tennis, focusing on return of service, white water canoeing competitions, the cross-country element of three-day eventing and weight-lifting. Less productive were soccer, rugby, ice-hockey and track cycling. The effectiveness of he methodology was illustrated with large numbers of his award-winning shots.
Next Thursday (7th), we will be back at Tangmere, where we will be hosting round 3 of the SCPF Print League. Our judge will be Ken Scott, who is known to most members as judging advisor to the SCPF. For those who are unfamiliar with the League, each of the 8 clubs in Division 1 (including CCC) enters 8 images, which remain unchanged throughout the competition. The clubs then take it in turns to host a round, with a different judge for each round. The scores from the 8 rounds are aggregated to find the season’s winner.
I had planned to organise a photowalk on Saturday 9th December but a conflict has arisen, so the next photowalk will be on Saturday 13th January. Details to follow.
