Weekly update

Last night we really enjoyed an excellent presentation by our own Julia Wainwright FRPS MPAGB BPE4*, whose talk entitled ‘Photographing Predators and Scavengers’ was illustrated with some of her outstanding and multi award-winning Natural History images. She had structured her presentation along the lines of the mental check-list she uses in the field to ensure a good variety of shots, such a portraits, action, parents with offspring and so on. It was very thoughtfully constructed and delivered with exemplary fluency. Thank you again for standing in at the last moment, Julia and for giving us a very entertaining evening. The featured image is of course one of yours.

Our intended programme speaker had been David Jenner but yesterday’s weather forecast made it unwise for him to travel from Kent and he does not make presentations over Zoom, so we have postponed his presentation entitled ‘Night and Day Panoramas’ until next season. You may have seen from previous Newsletters that he will be hosting an early-morning landscape workshop at Bedgebury Pinetum starting at 6am tomorrow. At least one of our members will be attending, so good luck with the weather, Giles.

Last night was to have been the closing date for the Small Print Competition but that will now move to the 9th November, because of yesterday’s weather.

9th November is also the closing date for the 1st Advanced Print Competition, so get to work if you haven’t prepared already!

There will be a photowalk in Brighton on Saturday 11th November. Street photography and perhaps starling murmurations at dusk. Please let me know at mailto:chair@chichesterCameraclub.org.uk

The following Sunday (19th), the RPS SE Doc Group will meet for a presentation by Janey Devine of her latest project, with lunch at the Walnut Tree to follow. See below for details.

The SCPF Inter-Club Print League is underway. 6 clubs enter 8 prints each, which are reviewed by 6 different judges. Ken Scott will be judging at Tangmere on 7th December, so you will see the whole field then. After 1 round, New Forest CC are in the lead, 2.5 points ahead of us.

I’m pleased to say it hasn’t been necessary to restrict the entry for the 1st Club/Inter Print Competition, so you will see all your images.
