Weekly Update
What an inspiring and thought provoking evening we had on Thursday. Antony Penrose, the son of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose needed no introduction, and in fact, it was the second time Antony has spoken at Chichester Camera Club. Antony co-directs the Lee Miller Archives and provided unique, behind-the-scenes insights into the 2024 film Lee, which starred Kate Winslet. He chronicled his mother’s transformation from a Vogue model to a pioneering Surrealist photographer and WW11 war correspondent, highlighting her courage, trauma, and complex legacy.
Members spoke of a great evening and Antony as such an eloquent speaker. Another member spoke of enjoying it so much that she went home and watched the BBC documentary on iPlayer, which others said they also plan to watch. Some members have recommended the Lee Miller Exhibition at the Tate Britain which closes on the 15th February. More information is available HERE. There is, of course, the option of visiting Farleys House and Gallery which is managed by the Penrose family as a privately run archive and museum in East Sussex. See below for what is happening over the next fortnight. Please note that intermediate members who entered the PDI competition will have had one of the three images culled due to the number of entries.
