Landscape photowalk 30.11.25
This photo walk will be led by Richard Paterson and will combine the nearby locations of Houghton Forest, Bury Hill and the Arun valley, to cover the technical and compositional aspects of woodland and landscape photography. Depending on the conditions on the day we will explore some specific areas of Houghton Forest followed by capturing classic landscape scenes of the Arun valley from Bury Hill. For those who are more energetic, there could be an opportunity to drop down into the valley for some riverside shots too. What we will get will be weather dependant but in the right conditions they can both be great locations.
You will need appropriate footwear and warm clothing / waterproofs. Bring something to eat and drink for lunch. Regarding camera gear, the following would be useful though not essential. Lenses – wide angle if you have one, a midrange zoom (around 35 -70mm) and a long zoom lens (70 – 300mm). A long lens will particularly be useful for both parts of the walk if you can bring one. A sturdy tripod is desirable but not essential. A circular polarizer would be helpful if you have one. Other filters are not essential.
The walking distance will be about 5km over easy paths with some moderate inclines. I expect it will take the best part of the morning and be complete early after lunch sometime. The route is circular and the car park is easily accessible at any point en route should anyone want a shorter trip.
We will aim to meet at the Houghton Forest car park (AKA Whiteway’s Café car park). This is on the roundabout on the A29 driving towards Bury from Slindon. The Sat-Nav postcode is BN18 9FD. We will start at 07.30 am, to be confirmed the day before, depending on weather conditions. If there is mist in the valley that morning, the earlier the better! Let me know at mailto:photowalks@chichestercameraclub.org.uk if you would like to join us. It is important that you let us know if you are coming as Richard will contact you re the plans or last minute changes.
As with all photowalks, please be aware that you participate at your own risk.
