Chairmans Blog 16 November

We were so lucky that Barry Senior could step in at short notice to judge the First print competition for the advanced group replacing Roger Crocombe who was unwell. Barry held back a large number of images and at the end found the deserved winners. The images with a lot of photographers input, good quality of light and did not show too sharp edges on the horizons did very well. However in his final statement before leaving he said that if the judge’s comments did not make sense forget it.

Sonia and Paul from The Sussex Federation presented the cup for the Developers Round top Club and the cup for the combined scores of The Developers Round and Open Round. Well done to all the selected photographers. Most of whom are on the photograph. Results will be posted on our and the SxPf website.

Annual Exhibition Review

Members who attended the AGM in May might remember that the Committee was asked to review the Annual Exhibition and as part of that process, we would like to have Members’ views on what they like best and anything they would like changed.  To do that please find a questionnaire here Chichester Camera Club Exhibition Review which includes some background and the aims of  the exhibition.  Completed forms should be returned to the Club by Thursday 3rd December – or may be emailed to Lorna Brown.

Print Group Tuesday 10th November

Members enjoyed Tuesday’s Print Group which looked particularly at the idea of ‘competition images’ and the sort of criteria judges look for.  With the deadline for submitting the first print competition entries for Beginner and Intermediate workers only two weeks away (Thursday 26th November), newer members found this especially useful.

Charlie Roe brought along some of the wonderful images by Charlie Simcox, including photographs of Chichester in the 1950s and a superb portrait dating back to 1942, which we greatly enjoyed seeing.

Next month we will be looking at the different types of print papers and how they can affect the look of the image, as well as, as always, images in every state of development that members would welcome comments and advice on.  And, it being the last meeting before Christmas, there will of course be mince pies!
