Thursdays Meeting

Rosemary Wilman managed to enchant us with images all with an originality and visual impact from well known locations that we have seen before such as Santorini, Harris and  Yellowstone. Also images from less familiar locations such as Amritsar and Washington made her talk “About Time and More” an inspiration and lesson in image quality from one of the loyal followers of our club.

Certificates for the Beginners and Intermediate PDI competition were handed out and here is one of the winning images from Corinne Noyalet:

SCPF

It is now certain we will finish top of the SCPF Print League first division even though we were 8^th in the 8^th round. Well done our participants: Ann McDonald, Ross Laney, Mike Davison, George Atkins, Janey Devine, Pete Bamforth, Pietro Rocchiccioli, and Jeanne Sutherland.

We are handing back our trophy for first place in the PDI league that we won last year, as we now are not in the running for the top positions.

Coming Events

Thursday we have the AV group show with Graham Sergeant and Carole Speight where the mega screen with Audio Visual excitement guaranteed. Don’t miss this yearly  extravaganza.

The SCPF Championships.  Is at Highcliffe & Infinity Camera Club, Bashley Road, New Milton, Hampshire, BH25 5RY.  The date of 20th March for a start time of 10:00am to approximately 4:00pm.  Visitors to bring their own lunch.  Tea and coffee plus biscuits will be served during the day.

Next Tuesday the Digital Subgroup meet with Janey Devine opening up the world of mobile phone apps and Sheila Tester will demonstrate Lightroom on location catalogue.

Ensure you advertise to you friends and volunteer to help if requested and plan a visit to the Focus Group Exhibition in the Assembly Rooms starting on Saturday the 2nd^th April and lasting to the 9^th April.  Focus Group

As a Club we pride ourselves in sharing skills and techniques and we all draw inspiration from fellow photographers, as well as  recognising the difficulties when on a photography trip we all take very similar if not the same images.  But where the line is between taking inspiration and outright ‘copying’ can be hard to define.  And in these digital days,  the outright ‘theft’ of images is easier than it was previously.  For instance, last year, a member of a highly regarded photo club was found to have entered what was someone else’s work in a national competition.  An article in this week’s PAGB enews (157+ extra) makes very interesting reading – touching on prevention, detection and what to do if your images are stolen.

Next week we have the PAGB Group on Monday, the Print Group on Tuesday, the Portrait  workshop on Wednesday and Rosemary Wilman  Hon FRPS “About Time & More” on Thursday.

Deadlines for the 3^rd Adv print competition this Thursday and the 17th for the Beginners and Intermediate print competition. Also deadline for the hanging plan for the Spring Exhibition is the 24th March.

On Thursdays Club Meeting we realised how high the standard is in the PDI images in the First Division of the SCPF league. The judging by Steve Smith was very precise and fair. He gave excellent relevant comments to support his scoring. By giving points from 4 to 10 managed to differentiate between the images and separate the clubs. We should be prepared in our own competitions to have a wider range of scores when the judges are as skilled as Steve  in their analysis.

Our highest scoring image was from Janey Devine “I am Telling You” and we finished as 3^rd the behind Southampton, New Forest and Bracknell finishing 5^th overall. Well done to all our PDI entrants: Frank Adams, George Atkins, David Harris, Trevor Sims, Peter Searight, Pietro Rocchiccioli, Sheila Tester and Janey Devine.

Our position at the top of the First Division of the SCPF Print League looks secure.

The En-print competition ended with very strong entries by Ed Feldmanis winning the first three paces in competition with very good images. Well done Ed.

John Chamberlin gave us an amazing collections of images of landscapes and wildlife in his talk “Near and Far” from so many places he had visited in the last 2 years.  His enthusiasm and engagement was rewarded in the quality and beauty of his photographs.

This week we are looking forward to Ray Ackland’s second Black and White evening on Wednesday.  Thursday’s meeting, The SCPF PDI league competition  will give us a chance to see the images from clubs we are competing with in the league judged by Steve Smith FRPS,

Next week we have a PAGB group meeting on Monday the 7th and Print Group on Tuesday the 8th and on Wednesday a Portrait Worksop with Reg Wilson where all who come can take photographs.
