Weekly update
Last night, Jo Teasdale FRPS (featured) treated us to an imaginative and emotional review of the origins of her ‘F’ panel. It started when her son was the sales agent for a disused factory in Fulham which had previously designed and manufactured mannequins for the fashion industry. The factory had closed abruptly, with whole and parts of mannequins left where they were. Without moving any of them, Jo captured the powerful emotions evoked by their juxtaposition and expressions. A fascinating evening.
The long sequence leading up to the Annual Exhibition is well underway and Lorna has posted some initial guidance below, notably the deadline of 16th May for your entries. Our President, David Abbott masterminds the engraving of the trophies which will be presented at the Exhibition Preview evening on Friday 2nd August. If you won a trophy last year, please will you bring it (newly polished) to the Club next Thursday, where he will collect them all.
Congratulations to Vincent Lavender on winning the Small Print Competition. Another of his images came second, so very well done.
Ann McDonald’s post below reports members’ successes at the Southampton International Exhibition but I must add my congratulations to Lorna Brown FRPS on having 2 images accepted and winning an FIAP ribbon and to Julia Wainwright FRPS MPAGB on her astonishing 13 acceptances and 7 awards, including a bronze medal. Outstanding!
Note that the closing date for the 3rd Advanced print competition is Thursday 25th April.
Thank you to all those who contributed to the collection for a charitable donation in Richard Ryder’s memory. We raised £500 and Richard’s family are considering which charity(ies) should benefit.
The Club’s AGM will be held by Zoom on Thursday 2nd May. There will be no meeting at Tangmere. Our Constitution requires at least 25% of our 132 members to be present for the meeting to be quorate, so please make every effort to attend. The papers for meeting are on the website. Please read them. Go to Documents > Published Documents > AGM Documents > 2023-2024.
