Success for CCC in PAGB Competitions
The PAGB GB Trophy and GB Cup competitions were judged behind closed doors over the weekend of 21st and 22nd March. The event Chairman was Paul Radden DPAGB EFIAP/g PSA4 and the three judges were:
- Gordon Jenkins HonPAGB
- Vin Scothern DPAGB EFIAP BPE5 PPSA
- Dave Tucker DPAGB EFIAP/p BPE5
For the GB Trophy, each club can enter up to 30 Open prints and 30 Nature prints and for the GB Cup up to 24 Open PDIs and 24 Nature PDIs. The three judges award a mark between 2 and 5 for each image giving a total out of 15, but it’s only the twelve highest scoring images that count towards the club’s total mark.
Along with other clubs from the SCPF, Chichester enters these prestigious competitions every year, but this year we have had the best set of results we’ve ever achieved.
GB Trophy (Open)
Our top twelve prints scored a total of 149 points and we came 4th in a competition that is traditionally dominated by portrait prints and composite images.
We received one award:

“991 Leaving a Dust Trail” by Julia Wainwright was awarded a PAGB Silver medal (Gordon Jenkins award).
GB Trophy (Nature)
We scored a total of 153 points and were runners-up, just one point behind Bristol Photographic Society. We had three awards:

“Hyena Scavenging for Food” by Ian Roberts scored 15 and was awarded a PAGB Gold medal for the Best Nature print.

“Red Fox Listening for Prey” by Julia Wainwright was awarded a PAGB Silver medal (Dave Tucker award).

“Savanna Sentinel” by Julia Wainwright was awarded a PAGB Ribbon.
GB Cup (Open)
We scored a total of 143 points and came 9th= with no awards, but that’s a big improvement on our 23rd place in last year’s competition.
GB Cup (Nature)
We scored a total of 149 points and were the winners of this trophy, three points ahead of Cambridge Camera Club.
We also had one award:

“Wren with Beakful” by Jim Munday was awarded a PAGB Ribbon.
I would like to thank the Selection Committee for their efforts, we had a five-hour selection meeting in early February to select images for these competitions. I would also like to thank the members who provided the images we have used, particularly those who provided additional unmounted A3 prints for the GB Trophy competitions. I’m expecting these prints to be returned via the SCPF at the next SCPF Reps meeting in May, although the PAGB have said they will retain the top scoring 60 to 80 prints which will be used for a travelling show free to use by clubs as part of their recorded lecture service.
