Newsletter weekending 19th September
Thanks to Kevin Macknay’s hard work last year, Thursday’s club evening at Tangmere was both informative and entertaining. The presentation was given by Nick Duggan, a professional motorsports photographer, who kindly donated his fee to Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity. Members attending the evening added more than £50 to the donation.
SCPF Conference Day
Suzie Kirkby, the new President of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation, invites members to a Conference Day at Littleton Memorial Hall on Sunday 27 September. The programme includes a range of speakers, among them our own Julia Wainwright. Booking is essential, with details available at https://southerncountiespf.org.uk/scpf-conference-day/.
Photo Safari Interest
Kevin left interest forms out on Thursday for members who would like to attend one of the planned photo safaris. The proposed locations are Brighton and London: fifteen people signed up for Brighton, and twelve for London. We should have more news next week, after Kevin has contacted Jet.
Special Interest Group: Camera Craft Tuesday 22nd September
Camera Craft focuses on the fundamental skill of photography: how to take successful images. The group aims to inspire, inform, and encourage members to develop their own technique and vision, whether they are inexperienced or experienced, and whether they use a phone or a dedicated camera.
Each session will focus on a central theme, with examples from masters, compositional approaches, technical implications, practical exercises, and club member experiences. Presentations will be short and sharp, with plenty of interaction around the group. We are also co-ordinating with the Photowalks programme to provide further opportunities to experiment in the field, and the group will suggest useful resources such as magazines, YouTube videos, and books.
RPS and Projects Special Interest Group
The group met on Tuesday and was very well attended. The printed images on show were fabulous and inspiring, and Lorna clearly explained how they had been presented to form a coherent panel. Anyone interested in showing images at one of our exhibitions, or simply wanting to improve their photography, is strongly encouraged to attend. I learnt quite a bit!

Replacement of Display Panels
While searching social media, I came across a post from another camera club highlighting their recent exhibition. My attention was drawn to the display stands they were using, so I contacted them to ask for more information. They have acknowledged the enquiry and will provide more details and comments shortly

1st Advanced PDI Competition
The website is now open for Advanced members who would like to enter this season’s 1st Advanced PDI Competition.
- Members may submit up to three images using the Photocomp software.
- Entries close at 23:59 on 24 September.
- The competition will be judged by Glyn Paton on Thursday 8 October.
- Judging will take place at Tangmere Village Centre.
A New Competition?
I may have stumbled upon a new challenge. On my way home from a meeting in East London this week, I spotted a Camera Club member heading off to take photographs around Canary Wharf. They were focused on photographing some lads on the opposite platform, until they looked up and recognised me — not just a double take, but a triple take. To borrow a phrase from a TV series: “Under His Eye.” Has anyone else spotted a fellow member out and about?
Photowalk
I am going to Bushy Park on Tuesday. Not only is it the Rutting Season, it is also the Deer Cull. The gates will not open until 08:00. I shall be leaving my home at 06:00, anyone who fancies a lift, let me know on Thursday
