September Update
A very warm welcome to our new CCC members. The season started with a wonderful presentation by Paul Mitchel, FRPS, called ‘Woodland Ways’. The featured image is not one of Paul’s but one by our own Chris Gledhill.
The talk centred around some of Paul’s favourite woodland locations including Burnham Beeches, Savernake Forest and various locations throughout the UK. Paul’s talk was fully illustrated with digitally projected images and prints made throughout the four seasons. In the second half of the evening Paul took us through his Lightroom processing demonstrating how he had created some of the fantastic images.
Our Special Interest Groups in September follow on nicely from this presentation with Richard Paterson, CCC Vice Chair, sharing his experience of how to ‘see the wood for the trees’ and giving us his keys to woodland composition in the Developers’ Group on Monday 16th September. Sarah Nichol picks up the baton in the Digital Group on Tuesday 24th September with a demonstration of using Lightroom and how to resize PDIs for competition uploads.
The RPS Group is on Tuesday 17th September where members can work towards Licentiate, Associate, and Fellowship distinctions awarded by the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) that recognise photographic achievement at various levels. Advice, encouragement and assistance are the keywords in this group where prospective submissions are previewed and critiqued.
Print Group – Please note that there will not be a Print Group in September but we look forward to it being relaunched on October 8th. Members of this group help each other improve the quality of their printed images with constructive critiques and praise. It is a great way for those less experienced members to tap into the knowledge of their more advanced colleagues and to see examples of their high quality work. Do come along and bring your prints for review. Any size prints will do, whether they are finished prints or work in progress. The Small Print Competition will be part of this group – more information will follow.
Photo Walks – We hope that our photo walks will commence again soon in the new season. Please be patient whilst your Management Committee do a little work on meeting our insurance criteria and do our best to protect the club, its members and the public from any risks. We need to follow best practice as advised by the RPS, nothing too onerous, but we would be irresponsible if we do not do this work.
Thursday Club Nights – This Thursday 12th September our guest speaker is Alison Webber with her presentation on The Cloak of Conformity and the Corset of Expectation. Alison describes herself as a neurodivergent artist and her talk explores the relationship between autism and photography. Alan Price will give us Lightroom Killer Tips on the 19th September and the 26th of September is the 1st Advanced PDI Competition.
Enjoy!
