The Falklands – Islands of Kings, Tyrants & Giants
Set adrift in the South Atlantic, this British Overseas Territory came to everyone’s attention when Argentinean forces invaded in 1982. The resulting conflict was fairly short-lived but the episode lives long in people’s memories. What is less well known however is how fabulous the archipelago is for wildlife. There are huge colonies of Penguins (4 species), Imperial Shags and the majority of the World’s Black-browed Albatrosses nest here. South American Sealions and huge Southern Elephant Seals line the beach constantly arguing over ownership of a harem. It truly is an amazing place.
