Wildlife Photography in Sussex
David Plummer is a passionate, experienced and respected wildlife expert, photographer and conservationist. His images are featured in leading wildlife publications, he advises internationally on eco-tourism and is a proactive conservationist within the UK.
David’s interests in wildlife and photography began early in childhood – his earliest memory is of studying woodlice aged just two. At eight, he bought his first secondhand SLR camera and was delighted when he managed to get a full-frame shot of a blue tit at nest.
He only takes pictures of wild animals in their natural habitat. Before photographing any new subject, he carries out extensive research and it is this, combined with his in-depth knowledge and endless patience that are the essential framework for his breathtaking images.
In an interview with Sussex Life back in 2016, he talked about his love for Sussex which has everything – the Downs, the sea, woodlands. He talked about how he spent weekends in Sussex and honed his skills photographing flowers and butterflies, staying
in a campsite at the end of the road where he now lives with his garden fence literally on the South Downs National Park boundary. Becoming a volunteer photographer for the Sussex Wildlife Trust in 2002 was a turning point for him in becoming a wildlife photographer and he still works closely with the Trust – taking photographs in their reserves and running courses for them at their Wood Mills centre and also from Scrag Copse.
