Thursday 30th March

I was sorry to miss last night’s third and final Advanced Print Competition last night, and Sue Sibley’s careful judging.  Sue’s a  highly competent photographer in her own right with LRPS and ARPS gained within 4 months in 2012 and followed up by AFIAP and CPAGB accreditations soon thereafter.  She exhibits regularly in national and international competitions and is the current Chair of the Southampton International Exhibition.

Sue brings a wealth of photographic experience and knowledge to her judging, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of images and always giving useful advice for improvement.  She has a particular eye for the use of  use of textures,  a clear story or message, and warns agains over-work pictures which can create unnecessary distractions.

It’s usually a close run thing at the top of the competition tables and this time was no different.  I’ll confess I was more than usually grateful for Jeff Owen’s speedy posting of the results last night and it’s congratulations to Lynne Owen topping the table with 78 points, pipping my 77.5, which just squeaked by a half-mark ahead of Jean Brooks on 77. Well done the ladies!

Jean scored a 10 for Art Deco@Hoover and Frank Adams also scored a 10 for Shepherd’s House.  Sheila Tester took two full marks for Gannet Feeding Young and Coprinus Disseminatus

Jean also asked to send her thanks to all those members who so generously sponsored her line dancing for a couple of hours on Red Nose Day. In total she managed to raise £130 in sponsorship which will go to a good cause. If you haven’t yet given Jean your sponsorship money, please do so next Thursday.

I was particularly sorry to miss Sheila Tester giving her report on the SCPF 2017 Print Championships that had been held last Sunday, 25th March at Basingstoke.  The Club did really well in this inter-club competition, greatly assisted by John Howes’s being awarded a Silver Medal for for Holy Man,  which helped put us into first place!  Congratulations to all contributing photographers.

Thank you for the congratulations! It was such a close run thing it could have gone either way. I feel fortunate that Sue Sibley liked my quirky Barbie image enough to get that extra half point pipping Lorna for the top spot. The images that got 10’s last night were just wonderful and I send my congratulations to Sheila, Frank and Jean.
    Best wishes to all
    Lynne
