It was a sad start to last night’s meeting with the news about Bill Wisden, which is fully reported in a separate post.  Bill was a very long standing member and good friend to the Club who will be much missed throughout the photography world.

Our evening otherwise was an excellent showcase, and indeed celebration, of the PAGB group (which I’m proud to be a member of).  The group, one of our Special Interest Groups, is ably run by Ann McDonald along with Janey Devine and its purpose is to support those us who are interested in PAGB accreditations and/ or entering national and international exhibitions, or salons.

Six of us had been persuaded by Ann to make a presentation about our work, while other members of the group showed their work in the small hall.  There was a recurring theme about the wide differences in the scores images can attract in different judging settings, which I kicked of by telling the tale of two images that have both been refused for salons and received awards! David Harris followed up with his CPAGB panel with a ‘guess the score’ element and then Lynne Owen showed her CPAGB images, explaining the background to some of the images which was really good to hear.  Frank Adams explained how he was developing some of his successful CPAGB entries for DPAGB assessment later this year, and Mike Davison presented his DPAGB panel, with some cautionary words about ignoring the advice he’d been given and more about those varying scores.  The presentations were rounded of by Sheila Tester with a selection of her wide-ranging images that had had salon success, right up to those that were awarded gold medals.

With the excellent range of work also on show it was a really enjoyable evening and we hope an encouragement to others to come along and try out the PAGB group.
