DESCRIPTION:2019 Southampton International PDI Show – Sue Dunham LRPS APAGB \n \nThe Southampton Camera Club was formed in 1896 and now runs one of the largest and oldest international photographic salons in the United Kingdom. Our 2018 International Exhibition attracted entries from nearly 60 countries around the world and SIE 2019 is the 106th anniversary of this prestigious event. \nOur exhibition is run under the patronage of La Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP)\, the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and the Global Photographic Union (GPU). \nAt the discretion of the judges\, it is our intention to issue a total of over 200 awards. In each class\, these will include FIAP\, PSA and GPU Gold medals\, 2 other PSA or GPU medals\, 6 Southampton Camera Club medals plus a number of Certificates of Merit and Ribbons. An additional Medal – 1 per class – will be awarded by our Chairman. The entrant with the highest overall acceptance total will win the FIAP Blue Badge for Best Author. \nAs usual\, entrants to the Smethwick International Exhibition (which closed on 11/11/2018) were able to select the option to have their prints forwarded to us\, thus saving on postage costs. The Southampton entry procedure allows such entrants to indicate that their prints will be arriving via Smethwick. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:3rd Club/Inter Print Competition Caroline Colegate ARPS APAGB \nCaroline achieved her ARPS in Contemporary Photography in 2011 and enjoys all genres of photography. Her own personal choice of subject matter is anything to which she has a strong emotional attachment or one that has an enduring expressive quality. \nShe is passionate about the quality of images and plays an active role in coaching people to achieve both RPS & PAGB distinctions. In 2002 she became a judge for the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF) and additionally has made a significant contribution to photography throughout the region with her activities in judging\, lecturing and raising the profile of camera clubs to a wider audience. Caroline is a member of the SCPF Judging Committee and is involved with the vetting and assessing of applications from potential new judges. She was awarded a Roll of Honour from the SCPF in 2013.

As a result of the efficient running of previous Salons these four organisations have awarded Gold\, Silver and Bronze medals for presentation to the top entries in the exhibition. In addition we will be awarding Bristol Salon Ribbons (Honorable Mentions); we hope to present approximately 300 awards again this year. Award winners and acceptances will count towards the granting of PSA & FIAP ratings.

DESCRIPTION:This month’s Print Group will have a particular focus on submitting work for the forthcoming Annual  Exhibition – the deadline for which is  the 16th May.  Bring along work in progress you’d like to share and perhaps get views on\, finished work you’re thinking of entering for the exhibition\, or just prints you would like to show. \nThis will be an ideal opportunity to get to understand the the behind the scenes workings of the Annual Exhibition and how best to present your work to ensure it does as well as possible.  Unlike the two ‘free-form’ exhibitions of North Mundham and the Spring Exhibition\, this one is judged\, although every member who submits work is guaranteed at least one image will be accepted. \nThere’s no need to mount work\, but please do attache prints to simple pieces of card so that they will stay upright on the prints stands. \nYou are also very welcome to just drop in to join the group without bringing prints along if you don’t feel ready to share work yet. \nTuesday 9th April at 7pm in the small hall at Tangmere. £3 for members and £4 for visitors.

DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to Chichester Camera Club’s Annual Spring Exhibition on 30th March and 31st March 2019 at Tangmere Village Centre. \nThis exhibition\, now in it’s 5th year\, has proved a great success.  The 30 participating print exhibitors have the choice and freedom to display their work however they wish with no rules on size or subject matter and NO judging!  The PDI workers are each allowed to have up to 6 images projected again with no subject ruling.  This freedom of choice results in images which show creativity and considerable artistic talent.  The weekend also proves to be a great social event.

DESCRIPTION:  \nMy father introduced me to photography\, and the darkroom\, when I was about seven years old\, and I’ve been producing pictures ever since. \n  \nI became actively involved in club photography in 1979\, (as a member of Field End Photographic Society in Ruislip\, Middlesex). I gained an Associateship of the RPS with traditional darkroom monochrome prints\, and a Fellowship with digital colour prints.  I serve on the RPS Fine Art Associateship and Fellowship assessment panel\, and provide advice at RPS distinction workshops. \n  \nA busy national PAGB judge\, and popular lecturer\, I have visited more than 230 different camera clubs\, and judged many regional\, national and international exhibitions. (See the Judging & Lecturing page on this website). \nI earnt a Distinction of the PAGB with colour transparencies\, and was pleased to receive an APAGB award for my services to photography.  I have also had success and gained awards in international exhibitions while working towards my AFIAP and subsequent EFIAP distinctions. \n  \nNow retired from working as an air traffic controller\, I am a member of Amersham Photographic Society.  Since 2005 I have occasionally supported Paul Foley FRPS with Spirit & Vision Landscape Photographic Workshops.   \nCHRIS PALMER FRPS EFIAP DPAGB APAGB

DESCRIPTION:Double Exposure Two – Paula FRPS & Guy ARPS Davies \n \nHyacinth by Paula Davies \nLuskentyre estuary by Guy Davies   \n“I describe myself as a “butterfly photographer” because I flit from subject to subject taking a photograph of anything that attracts me. I enjoy being out in the landscape pressing the shutter but I get particular satisfaction from seeking out abstract images in man-made and natural objects that look like landscapes. My FRPS panel was a good example of this.” \nquote Paula Davies \nGuy likes to apply the darkroom approach to bringing out the best in an image by selectively adjusting contrast. He particularly enjoys a monochrome picture and generally tends towards the dramatic approach but is occasionally tempted into trying the delicate/high key technique.

DESCRIPTION:Guy started in photography as a boy in 1946\, and was soon developing and printing my own films\, he really did not get serious until 1989 when I joined a camera club. In 2002 he was awarded the Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society. In January 2005 he joined the Photographic Society of America\, which also offers recognition for acceptances in international exhibitions. \nIn 2009\, I was awarded the AFIAP distinction and later in the year the PPSA distinction of the Photographic Society of America. He was also very pleased to achieve the Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society with a panel of prints showing details of sandstone rocks. \nHis preference is for landscapes but he also loves waterfalls and seascapes. All of her pictures started as photographs\, either from colour transparencies\, black & white negatives or digitally captured. She has been using digital cameras exclusively since 2003 and Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter IX are her chosen tools on the computer. DESCRIPTION:This month’s Print Group is Perfectly Positioned for Panels. With the Spring Exhibition at the end of March and the Print Panel Competition itself on the 4th April\, this is a timely opportunity to look at how images work well together through some of the principles behind panelling – which in its simplest means how best to put a group of images together. \nThis includes thinking about using images with a similar tonal range\, concepts such as central images and ‘bookends’ and telling visual stories. We can also touch on the dark arts of making hanging plans. \nAs always you can bring along work in progress\, final ideas to share with others or just come along to meet others and join in the discussions. \n Tuesday 12th March in the small hall at Tangmere at for a 7.30pm start.
