DESCRIPTION:As we are still unable to meet in person\, this season we will start the RPS Group off via zoom\, beginning on Tuesday 15th September at 7.30pm.  \nIf you are interested in finding out more about the Royal Photographic Society distinctions\, do join us for an introduction to the different levels and how to go about submitting work for assessment. A key part of putting together a portfolio of work for the RPS is how the images work together – a mini exhibition if you like – in a ‘panel’. The dark arts of panelling are not just critical for RPS submissions but helpful in putting together images for Club exhibitions and the Print Panel Competition (which we all hope will be possible next year!). \nAs well as an overview of the RPS awards we will be focusing this month on the LRPS\, Licentiate level – the ‘L’ panel\, and will look in more depth in October at the Associateship\, the ARPS. DESCRIPTION:This opportunity came by a mail from Glyn to our President\, which we were both happy to accept. Glyn\, glyndewis.com\, is a photographer\, educator and an author currently based just outside of Oxford. His three books are titled ‘The Photoshop Workbook’\, ‘The Photoshop Toolbox’ and ‘Photograph Like a Thief’ and all have been bestsellers on Amazon. \nIn his presentation Glyn  will talk about the importance of personal projects and how they are the key to developing as a Photographer. Glyn will also go through his current self funded 39-45 Portraits Project\, where he has been touring the UK photographing surviving World War 2 Veterans with the sole intention of providing Veterans and their families with classic and timeless portraits. Glyn will also go through some Veterans stories and talk about the photography and lighting equipment he uses to take these Portraits on location. DESCRIPTION:Tonight we go overseas to the Emerald Isle with Paul Stanley. \nPaul has had an interest in photography since his school days and is currently a member of the Dublin camera club of which he has twice served as President. He is the Director of the Eddie Chandler Gallery\, an FIAP Exhibition Centre\, a current committee member and past President of the Irish Photographic Federation and the current FIAP liaison officer for Ireland. She is passionate about animal welfare and is a volunteer at the Rochdale branch of the RSPA. Her other passion is black and white photography as she feels the removal of colour strips away any distractions and simplifies the subject to reveal its core. \nTo quote one of her favourite photographers\, Cole Thompson\, \n“For me colour records the image\, but black and white captures the feelings that lie beneath the surface” \nIn Sue’s own words she says\, my photos range from dark\, dramatic and moody to minimalist and light. I like to push my images to the extremes with deep inky blacks and pure whites. I’m constantly inspired by water\, whether inland (lakes and waterfalls) or more often at the coast. I also enjoy urban exploration and industrial photography\, I find beauty in the textures of decay found in abandoned buildings. More recently I’ve been experimenting with nature photography. I think it’s important to develop a personal style and follow your own vision when creating images.\nBe true to yourself. \nThe talk will comprise Sue’s thoughts on photography (particularly black & white) accompanied by five slideshows set to music with over 500 images on the following topics: \nArchitecture & Industry\, Urban Exploration\, Graffiti & Street\, Landscape and Nature. \n
