DESCRIPTION:We will end this season on a high with the excellent news that Brian Muir achieved his Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society this month with a submission in the Contemporary category. The group members have been watching Brian’s panel come to fruition over this season and we aren’t surprised the assessors were unanimous in their praise for Brian’s photographic skills. We can celebrate with him on Tuesday 21st May\, see his successful panel and hear more about the assessment process\, in this case the particular objectives of a Contemporary submission and the importance of the Statement of Intent.\n\n \n\nIt’s been a good season for the the group\, with group member\, Peter Jones achieving his LRPS earlier this year. For anyone thinking about starting RPS distinctions\, this last meeting of the current programme will be a good opportunity to see some successful panels and give you food for thought over the summer.\n\n \n\nNo need to bring work along\, you are welcome to come and observe to find out more.\n\n \n\nTuesday 21st May at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start in the small hall at tangmere Village Centre. £3 for Club members and £4 for visitors.\n\n \n\nThe featured image is one (in an edited form) from Brian’s successful ARPS submission

After last week’s masterclass in panelling by Chris Palmer and with the Annual Exhibition coming along\, learn more about how to make your images work well together. It is this requirement of a cohesive set of images that makes the RPS distinctions different from other awarding bodies. It’s not for everyone\, but it’s a skill that offers you much for exhibitions\, arranging prints on a wall at home and – of course – the Print Panel Competition.\n\n \n\nThere’s no need to bring any work along\, you’re welcome to drop in and observe. We have a number of potential submissions being worked up just now\, at Licentiate (LRPS) and Associate (ARPS) levels. The assessors were very complimentary\, noting the variety of approaches\, different topics\, gorgeous colours and good visual awareness. They also enjoyed PJ’s humorous take on a self portrait\, which you can see featured.\n\n \n\nPJ is a visitor to the RPS Group\, not a Club Member (so far!) and it’s always a pleasure to have non-members join us. DESCRIPTION:Mostly Abstract Reprise. \nMy goal is to use my camera frame as a means by which to pull the viewer out of a logical and recognisable world into a space which feels moe alive and joyful. I am drawn to shapes\, colour and rhythm while I strive to connect with the chaos that surrounds us. My work varies from representational to abstract and I move between the two continually. One of Jim’s claims to fame is that he took his photographic degree at Bournemouth in the same year as another club regular visitor\, Guy Edwardes. DESCRIPTION:Come and join us to find out more about the RPS distinctions\, no need to bring prints along\, you’re very welcome just to come along and observe\, chat to the others in the group. \nThe RPS is now only accepting LRPS (that’s Licentiate – the first level of the distinctions) in a digital format\, but we will continue to work in print for all the benefits that has until an applicant is ready to submit when we will change over to the digital versions.
