DESCRIPTION:We meet again on Tuesday 16th November – and again at Tangmere Village centre in the small hall. We’ll be able to see Nick Hepworth’s very recent successful L Panel\, along with Tony Baverstock’s successful A panel.\n\n \n\nI signed in to observe the RPS Licentiate assessments this week and will be able to report back. It’s very clear that the criteria for success are being equitably applied – variety of images\, a range of techniques\, visual understanding and a cohesive set of images – while the reasons panels are not successful are also very clear. These are as ever technical faults (over sharpening\, overblown highlights\, poor print quality for instance) coupled with repetition (or lack of variety) and panel collections that don’t sit well together. Come along and find out more and bring work for discussion if you are ready or simply join us to explore if the RPS distinctions are for you.\n\n \n\n7.15pm for a 7.30pm start – £3 for Club members. DESCRIPTION:===========Open to the entire Club ============ \n===== do let me know you are coming in case of cancellation ==== \nThis is the Seascape photowalk we all asked for. Originally the location was to be Hayling Island\, but tides this year are very poor. The combination of tides and sunset makes it too unsafe for the Winner Bank at Hayling. So West Wittering it is. \nMeet in the very end of the car park at West Wittering at 1400. Sunset is at 1630\, Low Water at 1720.  \nMaybe over two hours is a bit of overkill but it allows us to check out the groynes and the pools left by the receding tide and plan compositions. There is even time for a wander around the East Head dunes if you wish.  Its a 0.2m low so\, whilst a very low tide\, low water is an hour or so after sunset. Nevertheless there will be plenty of opportunities to use the West Wittering groynes and sand patterns whilst the setting sun illuminates the sky – I hope ……. ! \nThe postcode for the entrance to the West Wittering estate is PO20 8AJ. That gets you into Pound Road\, as soon as you are in it look for the left hand turn which takes you into the estate. Dont be surprised if the road through the estate feels too long – it is. Long that is. Get to the bit where you pay and then keep going until you can go no further. Thats the westernmost part of the car park. Park up and look for me. \nNow West Wittering Estate isnt particularly well organised – during covid they resorted to using a london based parking company to organise payments. They are proposing to carry that on (but Ive recently been there on spec – the image above is recent – and there was no problem getting in ….  and they seem unsure about things anyhow). SO I can only advise you to go to Just Park and pay at least the day before.  Here’s the link \nhttps://www.justpark.com/ \nSo not exactly as easy as turn up and pay but its not particularly onerous. Just annoying. \nKit? Well\, bring camera kit\, tripod\, hat\, an extra layer of clothing AND WELLIES. Beaches in November are not friendly environments. If you are cold and/or wet it will be a miserable experience. But with the right clothing you can settle into focussing on your images.  \nIt does help if you let me know if you are coming; events may well be cancelled at last minute and if heavy rain is forecast. While fully appreciating the “what you see is what you get” approach\, I am much more interested in chasing an ever-elusive image that appears in my mind’s eye\, an image that conveys my feelings and emotions\, rather than remains a mere statement of fact. My favourite photography subjects are: flowers\, still life\, and also capturing my impressions when travelling. \nFlowers and still life are my favourite photography subjects. Still life in particular is perfect for a perfectionist like me – no one fidgets or makes faces\, no sudden gust of wind or some other quirk of ever-changing weather can spoil your shot. DESCRIPTION:We had a really enjoyable RPS Group meeting on Tuesday 21st September – the first time we have met in person for 18 months. It was a particular pleasure to see a number of recent successful panels at Licentiate and Associate levels\, and thanks to Sarah Nichol\, Lynne and Jeff Owen for bringing those along. \n\n\n\nAt last we were also able to see work in progress in print form after our months looking online. Thanks especially to Janey Devine who is currently an RPS Assessor on the L panel as well as both Travel and Documentary and so is very well placed to advise on the recent changes to the assessment criteria. DESCRIPTION:===== Open to all Chichester Camera Club members ======= \nNOTE – The date for this first Photowalk has indeed been changed to the SUNDAY after a decision in the Developers Group meeting at Tangmere on  20th September \n================================================ \nThe first outdoors event is primarily for social reasons – to get to know anyone you dont yet know. As for the location\, it just so happens that in late September/early October the rut may well be happening. They will be gathering\, thats for sure. And Autumn colours may well be showing in the trees\, providing the backdrop. So meet in the North Car park on Sunday October 3rd at 3pm – that gives us plenty of time to wander round the park before retiring at dusk (6.40pm) or earlier to go visit one of the local pubs to continue chatting and maybe show some results.  \nDo note that the North Car Park is exactly that – its the carpark maybe a mile north of the main touristy NT car park at Petworth . Google tells me that the postcode is GU28 9LS .   (NOT GU28 9LR\, thats the main car park which you dont want) \nIm reasonably sure you all know the park better than I\, but for those who dont\, expect a wide open space with grass pathways running through it. There are clumps of trees dotted around for some early Autumn colour. The deer tend to congregate near the road where there is more cover\, and are more approachable there – but compared to\, say\, Bushey Park\, they are a lot more timid. Long lenses are the order of the day. \nIf you are wondering about kit\, bring whatever you want. If you are macro supremo\, bring your macro. If you are a landscape expert\, bring tripod and wide angles. As for me and the rest of us\, my advice is to travel light; I’ll bring a camera and a long (100-400) lens. Walking boots are a very good idea – and wear suitable clothing for the time of year. \nIf you are interested in a breeze round Petworth Park with like minded individuals\, do let me know that you are coming. My Father was an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and I spent many happy hours with him in his darkroom when I was growing up. He was my inspiration. \nI specialise in photographing sport and music\, but also enjoy travel and street photography. Based near Salisbury\, I am one of the house photographers at The Joiners music venue in Southampton\, and photograph regularly for Hampshire Cricket Club\, Salisbury Football Club and Druids Lodge Polo Club. DESCRIPTION:I’m pleased to say the RPS group has chosen to meet at our usual venue again in September after a period of virtual meetings.\n\n \n\nOur first meeting of the new season will offer an introduction to the various distinctions made by the Royal Photographic Society so if you are interested in finding out more about how to put together a portfolio of images that meet the RPS’s criteria do come along.\n\n \n\nA number of recent successful panels will be on show along with an overview of the requirements. It will also be a particular pleasure to see some of the work in progress that so far we have only seen online and hear from those developing submissions.\n\n \n\nIf you already have some ideas about work to enter\, you are also very welcome to bring that along. There’s is no need to mount that and small prints are perfectly suitable to begin with. it is however helpful if you do stick prints to a card of some kind as this will keep them upright on the display boards we use.\n\n \n\nMindful of Covid precautions\, there will be sanitiser available\, we will keep the room ventilated and please bring the correct change (£3) to avoid handing money.
