SUMMARY:Sams Sunflowers - Hayling
DESCRIPTION:Come snap some sunflowers. Sams Sunflowers\, a pick your own farm on Hayling\, has now opened its sunflower fields. Yep\, you can pick your own if so inclined\, but come along with camera in hand. Its a decent place\, loads of sunflowers\, other flowers as well\, but what makes it really handy is that there are usually two viewing platforms\, helping you get your eye above the flower heads. An entrance fee of £5 gets you into the fields and affords you parking to boot. On Thursday the fields are open to 9pm. \nThis counts as a Development Group meeting – which means images taken on this event may be shown for general approval and tumultuous applause at the first Tangmere session in September. So put your game face on. I will be more than happy to provide any guidance you feel you might need.  \n\n\n\nMeet on Thursday 4th August at 6.45pm in the car park. Because its essentially a series of fields\, there is no definitive postcode. SUMMARY:Pre-Exhibition Members’ Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our Members’ Pre Exhibition meeting on Thursday 28th July\, held as usual at Tangmere Village Centre at 7.30pm. We’re hoping to see lots of you there not just for the enjoyment of being back together again\, but for some important Club business. \n\n\n\nThe meeting will be the first opportunity to see the exhibition catalogue (price £1) – and to see which of your entries have been accepted (no one has less than three print acceptances) and indeed to sneak a peek to see if you have been achieved any of the awards\, which will be presented at the Preview on Friday 5th August at the Assembly Room. The catalogue is quite a work of art and our thanks are due to Andy Dulson for the fabulous job he has made of it. \n\n\n\nThere will also be a short version of the PDI Show\, with thanks to Jeff Owen for that. Every PDI submitted has been accepted and during the exhibition you’ll be able to see all of those on the TV by the refreshments so you can sit an enjoy the showing with a coffee and some cake. \n\n\n\nAll the Certificates of Merit\, chosen by our judge this year\, Chris Palmer FRPS\, will be distributed at the Members’ Pre-Exhibition Meeting too and it will be good to have an enthusiastic audience to celebrate each other’s successes. \n\n\n\nWe know for those who haven’t exhibited before – and indeed those who perhaps only did it once before our enforced cancellations – that arriving at the Assembly Room on Friday 5th August to set up your prints can be quite daunting. To help with that you’ll find some guidance notes explaining how to go about it and we can give some key pointers at the Pre-Exhibition Meeting too. \n\n\n\nImportantly though we also need you there to take away the leaflets and posters that advertise the exhibition. You should distribute these as widely as you can – to neighbours\, friends\, local shops\, your hairdressers and the like so we can attract as many people as we can to come along and see our wonderful showing. \n\n\n\nWe’ll also have next season’s programme available for a first look what there is in store for our Thursday meetings\, as well as the key dates for competitions and the other exhibitions. \n\n\n\nAnd finally\, with the strange circumstances of the past two years\, we have some Trophy and Cup Certificates from the exhibitions in 2020 and 2021 which we will also be very pleased to present.

SUMMARY:Caroline Preece		Tools not Rules
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nCaroline Preece is the daughter of Margret Preece\, a long-standing member of our club.  In 2015 she gained her LRPS distinction and in 2019 she became a photographic judge and now judges at clubs across the UK.   This journey has taken her into the world of photography as a visual language\, visual design and the psychology of how we interpret the visual world around us and led her to reject the concept of rules altogether\, thinking instead in terms of tools.  If we understand the tools at our disposal we can then use them to better communicate through our photos. \n Her own photography is a reflection of both her life pre-Covid in London and her rural upbringing in a small country village.  On the one hand she is drawn to human elements and stories\, documenting everyday life\, chance occurrences\, and captured moments.  But then she seeks an escape from the hustle and bustle and creates minimalist landscapes and seascapes which for her represent ‘space to breathe’ away from the urban density of city life. She is a member of Loughton Camera Club which is on the London Essex border. \nHer talk is entitled Tools Not Rules. The objective of her talk is to introduce to people a different way of thinking about photography and composition. The first part of the talk covers photography as a visual language. In the second part she aims to provide club members with an understanding of the psychology behind how people interpret the visual elements within an image\, and the impact of their choices on the end image and how the viewer experiences it. The talk is based on psychology and is about empowering people to make informed decisions as opposed to worrying about rules and whether to break them.

SUMMARY:Club Photowalk - The Hawk Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:============== Note the date change to 8th May ============== \n  \nThe Hawk Conservancy is a dazzling place to go watch various kinds of raptors strutting their stuff.    \nIf you havent been there\, dont assume its just another place to go see birds on sticks. No such relaxing luxury. Instead you will be confronted with a series of flying shows\, getting better throughout the day and topped off with the amazing vultures\, red kites and the owls. All in open territory. And not a cage bar in sight. \nMeet in the car park of the Hawk Conservancy at a relaxed 10.15. That gives us 45 minutes to muster\, get through the check in\, orientate ourselves and get to the first talk/event at 11.00. The Centre is near Thruxton\, just west of Andover and the postcode for the Centre is SP11 8DY. For most of you the journey is likely to be just over an hour. \nThe flying schedule has changed a little from past years\, but  in outline it starts slowly at 11 and then immediately picks up pace\, carrying on to around 2.30 when there is a break for lunch. Either bring a packed lunch or eat (outside or in) at the Centre’s Cafe. Activities resume at 3.45 and finish at around 5.15. \nA full description of the events can be found on the website (www.hawk-conservancy.org) under ‘Visit’. Its also where you can prebook your ticket. Prebooking is advised\, as during Covid numbers have been restricted and that may well still be the case . A ticket price will be around £15. I’ve booked mine. \nDo bring a face mask\, it may still be required in indoors areas\, notably the cafe. \nApart from that\, bring a camera and a long lens. You wont need much else\, apart from spare batteries and cards. Brush up on your camera’s focus tracking functions (inward groan – landscapes dont tend to move much ….) and thats it. Oh\, and there is  a fair amount of schlepping from event to event and comfortable clothing and footwear is a necessity. \nThis will be a good one so press your credit card into action now – and thanks Lorraine for suggesting it \nAndy 🙂 \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:  \n \nBob is a past-president of Brighton and Hove Camera Club and an A-list judge who has judged photography all over the south-east. He  is a member of the Nature Photographers Portfolio\, and in conjunction with poet Wayne Visser\, produced his first book ‘African Dream’ in 2012. His diverse travel and wildlife photography has helped achieve a LRPS in 2000 and an ARPS in 2001.

DESCRIPTION:====== UPDATE – There is some (re)construction of the sea walls going on at Clarence Pier. The original meet spot and car park have been changed\, as have one or two of the highlights. The blurb below has been updated to reflect this ============== \nHotwalls is the local name for the original defence structures built at the mouth of Portsmouth harbour.  The photowalk is a linear one from Clarence Pier to the Spice Island pub. Everyone is invited! \nThere are many and varied photo opportunites along the way (bring at least  a 24-105mm FF lens)\, but my personal faves are \n  \n. The daffs! \n. The arts section built into the Hotwalls \n. Victoria Pier \n. The concrete and wood benches looking out to sea \n. The steps leading into the Round Tower (pic above) \n. The Spinnaker Tower up close (ish) at The Point \n  \nMeet just before 11am on Saturday April 2nd in Clarence Pier car park.  Get to the Esplanade Car Park\, PO5 3AD\,  (the what three words address is  novel.mole.danger)  and meet at the pedestrian exit on the roundabout (gave.basin.pouch) \nThe plan is to walk for five-ten minutes to get around the sea wall works\, and join the walk proper at the daffodils. \nThats really it\, dress for the weather. Wellies not necessary – just wear comfortable footwear. SUMMARY:Ann Sutcliffe			Especially for You
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nAnne took up photography in around 1984 and finds it difficult to put into words exactly what her ‘style’ is. Others have described her work as pastel or pale and interesting. They also comment that she sees pictures in places that others would pass by without a glance. She is best known for her ever-expanding series of pictures of lady’s public conveniences and for the fact that many of her pictures include a dog. Anne never passes by the opportunity for a photograph and takes landscapes\, natural history and travel photographs. Since around 2001\, Anne has concentrated on making alternative images in familiar locations such as Cuba \, taking perverse pleasure in the fact that nobody can guess the location.

SUMMARY:Astrid McGechen		Publishing a book – A Mystery
DESCRIPTION:Astrid is a freelance photographer and book author based in Surrey. She started to seriously engage in photography a few years ago\, when struggling to juggle the demands of family life\, motherhood and a stressful job. Spending time outdoors and photographing became her way of balancing life. \nInitially\, Astrid photographed almost exclusively landscapes\, drawing her inspiration from scenes in the natural world that evoke a sense of tranquillity and harmony. Often\, she’d be drawn towards the less obvious details in the landscape – such as shapes\, patterns or a particular colour – making them the primary subject of her images. In the last few years\, Astrid has become fascinated by street life and architecture and has photographed extensively in cities in the UK and abroad.
