Thursday 3rd November

Our first call last night was to give a resounding ‘thank you and well done’ to Ann McDonald and all the team for such a successful day last Sunday when we hosted, on behalf of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation, the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain Assessment advisory day. You can read all about the day under the separate PAGB post, but we also had the benefit last night of seeing a collection of successful images giving a good idea of the standards required for CPAGB and DPAGB (credit and distinction awards).  These images have been given to the SCPF for use within the region, and we saw them courtesy of Peter Rocchiccioli, the SCPF Vice President.

Our speaker was back by popular demand with the third part of his ‘Diary of a TV Photographer’.  Fareham-based Tony Nutley  has decades of experience in both TV and film photography, his website gallery a veritable roll call of the British acting profession, including Robert Hardy, Ken Scott, Sean Bean and Maggie Smith.  It is of course his back stories about the great, good and not so good that really keep audiences entertained and his wealth of memories quite bottomless.  That said, he admits to having poor recall for names and one or two of our members did seem to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of TV drama actors that might make one worry!

Our particular thanks to Tony for turning out while suffering from a cold and to see some of his earliest pictures before those of John Thaw’s Morse and Sean Bean as Sharp was particularly interesting.  And yes, I’m more than happy to admit the young Rufus Sewell was by far my favourite image of the evening.

Having missed the first Club and Intermediate PDI Competition last week, I was pleased to see Certificates of Merit awarded to a good number of new members and that some recently promoted members had also done very well in Intermediate.  First Print Competition for Club and Intermediate is open now, and the deadline 24th November – let’s hope for another good showing!
