Chairmans Blog 16th September

Meeting this Thursday 17th September

We will have a Print Walk and everyone is encouraged to bring photographs to show. Everyone is invited to bring printed images, ANY SIZE or TYPE from HOLIDAY SNAPS to SERIOUS IMAGES (finished or in progress).

We will lay out one table to for each member to display their prints and give everyone time to circulate and look and discuss the images with their authors.

Depending of the number of participants and the room and limited tables we will probably need several rounds giving everyone time to see each others pictures.

Some of the most respected photographers of the club and the selection committee will be on hand to give comments.

Meeting Thursday 10th September

The meeting last Thursday was dedicated to Ken Scott ARPS who took us on a personal wandering in La Alpujarra, an eclectic region of Andalucia on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada in Spain showing an insight in his long affection and love of the place illustrated with a collection of images, video clips and music. He radiated his inspiration to the members with his sympathetic approach to putting together a beautiful program about this very special region in Spain. See Kens images on:

Chairman’s Blog 4 September 2015

The meeting last night was a cracker with superb images and a pragmatic down to earth dialogue from Dave Yates. There were no spare chairs in the hall and the Dave Yates presented beautifully colour images (on Fotospeed Papers)  using predominantly wide angle lenses with subjects from USA, Iceland and near the photographers home in the Midlands showing snow and hoar frost.  The second half was all from film and on darkroom prints and was a masterclass in monochrome quality and photographic discipline in getting the image right in the camera.  The compositions already brilliant in the first half of the evening was exceptional in the monochrome images again many from Iceland.  The idea of mini portfolios and groups of images with a focus added to the harmony of the evening.  Dave Abbott thanked Dave for the evenings experience pointing out that Dave Yates has some superb Paris night time images on his webpage http://www.daveyatesphotography.com/july-2012-exhibition/4566214473 . and also praised Glyn on starting the season so well.

We  all look forward to next weeks evening with Ken Scott which will definitely keep up the high standard of last night’s meeting.

Peter presented the Janey Davey with the trophy as Photographer of the year voted in by the club members, she is also holding the cup for the best portrait in the annual exhibition and the cup for the winner of the advanced print competitions of the year.  Well done

At present no more information on the webpage is available if you are logged in.  This will be more important when we establish the gallery and start having internal competitions results.

Dont forget Monday the 7th September   at 7pm PAGB meeting with focus on entering international competitions and Print Group Tuesday 8th September  at 7:30 pm for exchange of comments on prints.

There will be a box to collect prints for St Wilfrid’s Hospice for the next two weeks.

CCC Final summer news items

1.         Recycling old ink cartridges  (message from Lorna Brown) – Members who use Epson printers might have found it a challenge to find out where/ how to recycle their old ink cartridges.  I’ve just found that you can use this website:  http://content.epson-europe.com/environment/collectandrecycle/en/fulfillment_inkjet.html and (after some advice from Epson!) you can, confusingly, select ANY printer from the list, not the one specific to your printer as the list isn’t comprehensive and will receive a postage paid label to send the old cartridges of to Epson.

2.         16 September : talk by Gavin Hoey at Alton Camera Club – Gavin is a freelance photographer, writer and trainer of all things photographic.  His work is regularly featured in photographic magazines, websites and videos. 5.         Tim Rudman Newsletter : Iceland, An Uneasy Calm’ (progress update) – Glyn Edmunds has asked that this progress update is circulated to club members as a matter of interest.  Tim Rudman writes “The book is currently with the printer EBS in Verona where it has already been printed, but the binding will be delayed as there were two small sections of the book that I wanted re-printed. The second round of proofs for these sections arrived today and have already been returned to EBS. I will attend the final on-press session next week.  If all goes according to plan and on schedule this will delay delivery by only about two weeks. So instead of mid September, shipping of the standard edition should now begin in the first week of October. The Deluxe edition should start shipping approximately two weeks later.  The book website is www.iceland-anuneasycalm.com

A new ‘Process’ section to the site is under construction, giving an insight into the print making processes.  To those who do – enjoy your printing.  www.timrudman.com
